古董Martin結他嘅下弦枕同現代版本有啲唔同。佢哋係用膠水黐喺下弦枕溝槽入面,而枕槽兩邊係開放式。呢種方法嘅一個主要好處就係下弦枕同枕槽之間緊密貼合,有助聲音傳輸。同時下弦枕同枕槽嘅兩邊亦透過打磨增添咗美感。
處理呢類下弦枕嘅弦距比一般下弦枕複雜,拆除下弦枕可能會對結他造成嚴重損壞嘅風險。所以降低下弦枕高度嘅唯一可行方法就係磨平下弦枕頂部。
喺磨平下弦枕頂部之前,我哋用禾紙同A4紙黐好琴橋同結他面板,好好保護佢哋。我哋亦會標記下弦枕正確音準嘅位置。首先我哋磨平下弦枕到所需要嘅高度同弧度,之後再處理下弦枕嘅音準。重新上線之後,我哋會測試結他音準係咪調整正確。如果唔係,我哋就要再次處理下弦枕音準。重複呢個過程幾次係正常嘅,調整結他嘅時間都會因為咁變長咗。

Guitar Repair Diary #403 "Dealing with Vintage Martin Glue-In Saddle" 1st part

The saddles of Vintage Martin guitars differed from their modern counterparts. They were glued into the saddle slot, which had openings on both ends. One of the main advantages of this method was the tight fit between the bridge and the saddle, which facilitated sound transfer. Additionally, the well-shaped saddle and bridge ends added to their aesthetic appeal.
Dealing with the action (height) of these saddles was more complicated than with normal saddles. Removing the saddles from the bridge posed a significant risk of damaging the guitar. Therefore, the only feasible method to lower the saddle was to sand its top.
Before sanding the saddle top, we took precautions by covering the bridge and guitar top for protection. We also marked the correct position for the guitar's intonation. We then proceeded to sand down the saddle to the desired height and radius, carefully filing the saddle top to compensate for the guitar's intonation. With the strings in place, we tested whether the guitar's intonation was correctly adjusted. If not, we had to file the saddle top again. It was normal to repeat this process several times, which significantly prolonged the setup process.
